Costumes....Part II

So, When I went to the fabric store I was forced to make so changes to the ideas that I had in my head.
I could only find one brocade fabric that I liked to use for the dress.  So, I decided to use that one for the top and compromise on the center of the skirt.
This is a close up of the brocade fabric for the top...

I decided to use this sparkly sheer fabric as an overlay for the center of the dress.
I also decided to go simple on the trim and this was sparkly trim that had flowers on it.
This is the finished skirt.
The pattern made the skirt VERY poofy!  I didn't really like that look.
So, I pleated the skirt instead of gathering it,this made the center much smaller and the skirt lays much smoother.

This is a close up of the top.

I used a simple cotton trim on the dress instead of a sheer just so that it would hold up to Emily wearing it.
I did end up going with chiffon sleeves, nothing else seemed to look right or was the right color.

Here is the completed dress! I will post pictures of Emily in it after her party so that it shows better.

Costumes.....follow the pattern? I think NOT!

So, I am going to be starting on Emily's Halloween costume.  Being Emily she wants to be "prince"  which is Emily for Princess which in turn means Rapunzel or "punzel" in Emily.

So, I purchased this pattern to make it, but, me being me thought that it looks too poofy compared to the skirt from the movie.

I like the skirt that she is wearing here.  Also, I was thinking that Emily would have the top layer of chiffon torn up in no time if I went by the pattern.  I think I am going to exclude that part and make it look more like this picture below.

I also love the two different patterns that are shown here so I think that I am going to use a brocade and then a plain fabric accented by some sort of trim. Unfortunately I can't get this specific application ( I don't have a computerized machine that does embroidery, so sad! ) but I think I can come up with something cute!

I also like the pattern on the top so I think I will try and find something tone on tone like this for the top.

Here is what the Rapunzel looks like at Disney and I really like this look.  Of course they can get the same fabric as in the movie and I can't but I like the look so that is what I am going to work toward.

The pattern gives  you directions for a head piece but I REALLY don't like that look!  I want something that looks more like these pictures of her hair!  There is the issue that Emily has brown hair and that it is not very long but....

I am thinking I can get some hair combs and attach some hair extensions that I can braid and then add the flowers to make my own hair piece.  I will have to see what I can find. It is Halloween season so who knows what I can find, I'm sure I can get something that I like better!

So, here is the next project for me...... I am not sure if I am going to get what I want but here is to me trying!  Wish me luck!
I will post pictures as the project develops...stay tuned and check back with me!

Newest pattern completed

I just finished this Amazing dress from a pattern that I got from Snazzie Drawers!
It was a super simple pattern that I am going to be using often.
Emily Loves it and will be seen twirling around in it this fall!
Can't wait to finish the rose pattern that I am going to use for a hair bow to go with this!

Tango dress alterations

Earlier I posted that I am doing a dance show with my husband in October.  We are dancing a routine to the American Tango.  I needed to come up with a dress and got a great deal on one on line.  I decided that I was going to make it my own and do some adjustments to it.

Here is the dress as I bought it for those of you that didn't see the earlier post.
I took some of the bottom off and cut the dress to the traditional tango angle.  I also took the collar piece off of it.

Here is a sneak peek of the materials that I purchased to make my changes.  Any ideas on where they are going or what I am doing with them?

More to come.......

Rainy day projects

Today it was raining when we got up so I decided it was a good day to get some projects done.
Brian and I are discussing what design we are going to do for Emily's big girl bed. Hence the previous post.  I am trying to come up with a complete picture of what I want her room to look like.  I need to figure out fabric first so I decided to start with a pillow.
Brian built Caleb's big boy bed so the same goes for Emily.  I just need to draw him up some plans and he goes to work.  It has saved us a lot of money and we get a sturdy bed that the kids can't break.

Here is my first pillow, I have the next one cut and laid out waiting for completion.

I also decided to make a skirt out of some fabric that I had left from a skirt I was going to make for myself.  I don't like throwing things away so I re purposed it.  Not bad if I do say so myself!

Not bad work for a rainy day.

SnazzieDrawers: Addison's Wonderland Children's Bedding: "I love a good find. Especially anything related to children's clothing or bedding! I first saw this bedding by Addison's Wonderland a few ..."

As a designer this couldn't represent my design tastes better.....now if only my husbands budget was the same!! LOL! I would LOVE to do Emily's room in this....hhmmmm maybe I can come up with something similar of my own design!

This week....

I had an awesome weekend with Family.  A much needed break in all the craziness of life.  This week is back to the grind!  I am working on promoting the business and just started a Twitter account!  Please come and check it out.  Tweet me!
We are doing a garage sale this weekend so I need to get that all set up and ready to go by Thursday so that I can get ready for hosting my FIRST Moms night out for my fellow mom's.  I am excited!
We have dance rehearsal tomorrow night for the program coming up in October!  Exciting and nerve racking at the same time!  I am going to be doing some alterations to a dress that I found an awesome deal on.  I only paid $21 and change with shipping for it!  I will post updates on the changes as I get to them!  Here is what the dress looks like so far.
I ordered red shoes off ebay and so I am going to be adding some red into it somehow.  I am also going to add straps and take off the black neck collar. I am excited to get it started but it isn't at the top of the list for this week.
I am not sure how much I will get back this week so, have a great week everyone!

New summer purse

I have a break in orders so I decided that this was a good time to make something for myself!  I have been looking for a purse that I thought was the right size and still cute, yet different!  I found this pattern on line for free and decided that I would make a new purse myself!  Here are some pictures of the finished product!  Hope you like it as much as I do!

Newest project

I got a great deal on some fabric that I thought was really cute for Emily.  I had no idea what I was going to make with it.  As I was going through my patterns and inventory of pieces I realized that I haven't done any girls overalls.  So, here is the finished product, hope you like it!  Can't wait for Emily to wear them!

The front

The back, I LOVE the little pockets!

I found these lady bug buttons and thought they were perfect to finish it off!

Great weekend

Had a great Memorial day weekend.  Got lots of yard work done and make a cute skirt for Emily to wear!  It has two regular pockets and a cargo pocket.  It has elastic only in the back so that the front looks more grown up!  She loves it! Hope you had a good holiday too!

Gone so long....

So sorry that I have been gone for so long.  My family has been going through a trying time as of late.  I lost a Niece and Nephew over the last few weeks and my family is still mourning their loss.  You don't realize how precious life is or how much you take for granted a healthy pregnancy till you live through the heart ache of loosing a baby.  This is when we turn to God and ask for the peace that expands beyond our understanding!  My Brother, his family and extended family have a long road of emotional ups and downs to work through but we know that if we hold God's hand, he will help us through it!  Thank you to everyone for your words of encouragement and all your prayers for my family.  They were felt and appreciated!  Love you all!

Knock off Purse- Finished

I got the purse done!!!  The kids did really good today.  I had to take a few breaks and give them some personal time, but they then rewarded me with time to work!  Here is the final steps.
First I cut the lining using the main purse pieces so that they would be the same size.  I surged then like I did for the rest of the pieces and stitched them together.  Then I started the ruffles.  The main purse did pleates, but I prefer to do gathering.
I then stitched it on to the center piece. Then stitched it to the front of the purse.
I also stitched the sides of the purse to the front as well.

Then I added the second ruffle to the purse.

Then the third ruffle.
Then I attatched the lining to the purse. Both pieces turned inside out leaving a hole so that I could turn it right side out and not have any seams showing.
I then stiched the top closed and added a velcro closure.  The original purse has a snap closure.  My purse ended up bigger so I felt it needed a bigger closure.
I added the button detail and the purse is done!!
Here are the two purses.  Mine ended up bigger. Hopefully my friend wont mind, she has kids and when you have kids your purse can NEVER be big enough!!  Hope you like it.  I think it turned out GREAT!

Ruffle Purse Knock off...

So, a friend of mine saw this purse at the store and wanted it only cuter.  She of course asked me if I could help her out.  I took one look at it and said, "sure"  So here we go....
Here is the purse that she wants me to make, only cuter!
The ruffles will be a little tricky but I think that I can handle it.  So, in order to make the knowck off we went and got some fabric that she liked and I guessed about the amout we needed but I think that we got about a yard and a half.  We still need to get the linning so that is why this is not done yet. Well.... not entirely.  There is the fact that we were gone this weekend...
So, I layed the purse down on the fabric and cut the shape out leaving about an inch or two extra for seam allowance.  I cut the main purse shape first.
Next, I cut the Base of the purse that goes all the way around it so that it has some depth.  This I cut on the fold of the fabric.
I cut the largest ruffle and the shoulder strap off the finished edge so that I had less to serge.
Then I cut the middle ruffle out of only one layer of fabric.
Next the smallest ruffle and then I used some of the length to cut a piece for the center piece to anchor the ruffles in the center.  We found an awesome boutton that we are going to add to ours.
I then cut the shape I needed for the center piece, allowing for extra to fold under.
I then serged all the pieces.  Now I am just waiting to get the lining so I can copy a couple of the pieces and then start construction.  More to come.....
